The National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska is the highest representative and legislative body of the Republic of Srpska and the central institution of its parliamentary life. As a legislative body, it performs normative, supervisory, regulatory and electoral functions within its jurisdiction.
The National Assembly adopted the Constitution of the Republic of Srpska, thereby laying the foundation for its constitutional and legal order. Following the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement in 1995, the Assembly continued to develop the parliamentary and institutional life of the Republic of Srpska.
Today, the National Assembly consists of 83 Members of Parliament elected in direct parliamentary elections. Through its work, it serves as a forum for democratic dialogue and for the adoption of laws and decisions of importance to the citizens and development of the Republic of Srpska.
In 2023, a Memorandum was signed establishing the Forum, a joint body composed of delegations from the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska, with 11 members from each assembly. This Parliamentary Forum represents a special form of institutional cooperation, bringing together members of the National Assembly of Serbia and the Republic of Srpska with the aim of strengthening parliamentary dialogue and cooperation on matters of common interest.
Cooperation between the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Srpska has been further institutionally strengthened through the Parliamentary Forum of the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Srpska, as a joint platform for cooperation between the two parliaments, the exchange of experience and the coordination of initiatives of common interest.
