About Romanian Contemporary Artists (with “Cristian Paleologu” error)

Romanian Contemporary Artists (with “Cristian Paleologu” error)

Romfilatelia, the specialized company in editing and trading Romanian postage stamps, is releasing into the postal network the postage stamp issue Romanian Contemporary Artists.

The image of older and newer Romanian art is not strictly what we have learned, read or heard. Contemporary art is more complex, but at the same time, it is varied.

If we were to analyze in detail Romanian contemporary art, we would discover elements of Art Nouveau, Art Deco, oneiric symbolist art, but also spirituality or realism.

We may easily notice that the Romanian artist have adapted to all these trends, maybe even faster than we might have thought, and this results clearly from their works.

The aesthetic ambiance of these artists’ works, which are reproduced by the postage stamp issue, must be understood in depth, but also from the point of view of the melancholy for classic art.

The four postage stamps of the philatelic issue and the FDC reproduce five masterpieces of modern art belonging to the following authors: Constantin Ceraceanu, Daniela Chirion, Alin Gheorghiu, Virgil Preda and Ciprina Paleologu, whose name is erroneously printed as Cristian Paleologu.

The transmission error that appeared in the process of data preparation is regrettable and obliges Romfilatelia’s team, which co-operated to the images and text preparation for printing, to present excuses to the author.

The image of the “first day” cover represents the work of “Girl with Wold”, created by Daniela Chrion.
