About Floods – July 2005 (II), The Messenger of Hope

Summer of 2005. Romania was covered by waters. Hundreds of villages and hamlets are lying under the burden of water and mud. Thousands of distressed houses, thousands of animals taken away by the loose water swirls. Roads and bridges have been ruined… water as far as the eye can see. Romania is crying and her tears have blended in the flood coming from the skies.

The extremely serious situation has required more than ever a mobilization of the entire population of the country, a solidarity which was materialized in aids meant to bring back to normal the lives of those who have suffered. To bring back the ray of hope in the sad souls of those who have suffered from the disaster which came upon our country.

Supporting the activities initiated with the approval of the Romanian Government, Romfilatelia, the specialized company in issuing and trading Romanian postage stamps is launching the second part of a definitive postage stamp issue Floods – July 2005 under the name of “The Messenger of Hope”.

The stamps are reproducing drawings made by children. The fantasy and the optimistic and playful manner in which the ideas were turned into images by the little ones are bringing hope to the distressed children from their pure hearts. The drawings have been selected through a contest organized by the Romanian Post Agency, called “Travelling to the Postal Universe”, which has already reached its second edition. More than 3000 works have been sent by the children from kindergartens, special schools and painting clubs throughout the country. The drawings are reproduced as follows:

- the stamp with a face value of RON 0.30 illustrates a drawing called “The Forest Mailman” created by Bianca Paul from Cugir (Alba County);

- the stamp with a face value of RON 0.40 illustrates a drawing called “The Road to You” created by Daniel Ciornei from Suceava (Suceava County);

- the stamp with a face value of RON 0.60 illustrates a drawing called “A Messenger of Peace” created by Stefan Ghiliman from Galati (Galati County);

- the stamp with a face value of RON 1.00 illustrates a drawing called “Good News for Everybody”, created by Adina Elena Mocanu from Valea Ciresului (Arges County).

From the hearts of children, messengers of hope for the distressed children!
