Ikarus IK-2

Fighter plane IK-2, was designed by engineers Ljubomir Ilić and Kosta Suvčev, who designated their project IK (I for Ilić, and K for Kosta). It was the first Yugoslav all metal aircraft, the first fighter and the first plane armed by cannon, built in the country.
Manufactoring of IK-L1 (L meaning lovac, fighter, 1 single seater) was initiated at Aicraft Factory „Ikarus“, and maiden flight was performed on April 22nd, 1935. During third test flight prototype was lost in accident, caused by technical failer of wing cloth covering. „Ikarus“ built the second, improved prototype, first flight on August 24th, which, durung tests achieved maximal air speed of 435 kmph, then the fastest nonretracting wheels aircraft in Europe. In 1937 to the Air Force were delivered 12 series planes IK-2. Planes IK-2 served initially in the 6th Fighter Regiment, at capitol’s airfield Zemun, until October, 1939, when were transfered to Zagreb’s airfield Borpongaj, in composition of the 4th Fighter Regiment. In April 1941War, IK-2 flew in the 107 th escadrille of 34 th Fighter Group of 4th Fighter Regiment, in air combat against Germans’ Luftwaffe. During W.W.II, the Croatian Air Force used four remained IK-2s, capturted or found abondoned on airfields or at air workshops, but were scraped before the end of war.

Fizir FN

Engineer Rudolf Fizir (1891-1960), created a number of own designes of plane and seaplanes, and for his atribution to developement of aviation was rewarded by international Diploma Paul Tissandier. Fizir FN (Fizur nastavni – trainer), firts flight 1929. Designed as basic trainer plane, FN were produced, equipped by water cooled 120 hp (88 kW) Mercedes and the same power radial engine Walter NZR, or as a seaplane, by 145 hp ( 106 kW) Walter Mars, by Aircraft Factory „Zmaj“, Zemun, (137 planes ). „Rogožarski“, Beograd, (40 pieces), and „Albatros“ Sremska Mitrovica, (20 planes). Manufacturing of 10 planes, initiated 1943 at „Zmaj“, was completed by the end of war, and planes delivered to the new Yugoslav Air Foirce. Since 1931 till 1941 FNs were used by the Yugoslav Air Force and Naval Air Firce, during the W.W.II by Italian Regia Aeronautica and Air Force of the Independent State of Croatia, and after the end of war, the Yugoslav Air Force and civil aeronautical association, (Vazduhoplovni savez Jugoslavije). Used in almost all Air Force’s unit and national aeroclubs, due to easy flying and simple maintenance „fizirs“ were very popular among airmen.
