About European Nature Protection

Ladybird (lat. Coccinellidae) belongs to the family of insects, and Adalia bipunctata, Coccinella septempunctata or seven dots ladybird are some of species. Ladybirds eat plant parasites, and her larvaes, whose upgrowts lasts up from 3 to 5 weeks, daily eat 20 to 30 plant parasites. At east cost of Turkey there are predator species of Serangium parcesetosum, which was used for suppressing of pests. Ladybirds live on the leaves of green plants, and in winter we can find them under dry cortex. Only in the middle Europe there are about 80 species of ladybirds. When in danger both larval and adult ladybirds cause "reflex bleeding", to deter feeding. That blood contains toxic substance which deters most of birds and ants.

Stag beetle (lat. Lucanus cervus) lives in holes in trees and dry logs, in the forests. The name is derived from the large and distinctive mandibles, found on the males of most species, which resemble the antlers of stages. Male stag beetles use their mandibles to wrestle each other. Jaws can be as long as the body. Although they are numerous, these species are nowadays endangered at the global level. Female stag beetle lay eggs in the peaces of old tree. Adult stag beetles live several months eating nectar and plant juices. Their slow flight, usually in the twilight, produces characteristic sound. They are food for many animals: magpies, chickens, foxes, cats, badgers, hedgehogs and woodpeckers. Males have bigger mandibles which look terrifying, but they are too week to be dangerous. But, yet, females can inflict a painful bite.

Dragonfly (lat. Odonata) is an order of old flying insects. Dragonflies have large, rounded heads covered with compound eyes, legs assimilated to catch pray in flight, two pairs of transparent long wings and elongated abdomen. Dragonflies are aquatic or semi-aquatic organisms during period of larva, mostly behaving as predators. As the adult insects, they are mostly near to water surfaces, but some species spread their activities areas also to the dry places. They are very advanced predators.
