2025International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation - Sheetlets

To highlight the importance of glacier preservation, UNPA will issue a special event sheet of 10 stamps in the denomination of € 1,20 on 6 June 2025.
The General Assembly proclaimed 2025 as the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation to raise awareness on the vital role glaciers, snow and ice play in the climate system and water cycle, as well as the far-reaching impacts of rapid glacial melt.
Glaciers are crucial for regulating the global climate and providing freshwater for billions of people. However, due to climate change, driven mainly by human activities, these vital resources are rapidly melting.
The preservation of glaciers stands as one of humanity’s most urgent challenges. These ancient ice formations are not just frozen water – they are the guardians of our planet’s climate history, the source of life for billions, and sacred places for many cultures. Their rapid disappearance is a stark reminder that we must act now.
