Shlomo Hillel was an important Israeli leader and diplomat who helped build the State of Israel. Born in Iraq in 1923, he worked to secretly bring Jewish families from Arab countries to Israel in the early years of the state. He later served many years in Israel’s parliament and became Speaker of the Knesset. Through his political and diplomatic work, Hillel played a key role in strengthening Israel and helping Jewish communities find a safe home.
