The World Festival of Animated Film is to be held in Zagreb from 17th to 21st June 1998. A quarter of a century has passed since 1972, the year of the first festival, until this year pending its 13th festival. Film animation has thus launched the name of Croatia and Zagreb into the world. The animated film is a type of film that is made by applying a special technique of recording of individual drawings and later applying a speeded-up projection of 24 takes per second. The best known films of this kind are cartoons, and there are also animated collages, puppet films and a variety of animated specimens whose common traits are setting into motion and animation. The beginnings of animation go back as far as the very beginnings of film art, to the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. A very special place in the world of animated film definitely belongs to Walt Disney and his well-known drawn characters in cartoons.
