Friar Slavko Barbarić, one of the most famous Franciscans in Herzegovina, died on the hill Križevci at the 14th Station of the Way of the Cross. He was born in 1946, the municipality of Čitluk, in the family of Luca and Marko Barbarić. Having finished the Episcopal Grammar School in Dubrovnik, he started and finished the studies of philosophy and theology. He won his doctoral degree in religious pedagogics in Freiburg. After returning to his native Herzegovina, he became a curate in Mostar and from 1982 till his death he was stationed at intervals in Međugorje. Parishioners and pilgrims from all over the world remember friar Slavko as a person full of life energy, endless patience and comfort. He easily made contacts with people from all corners of the world.
