About Slovene Ships - Portoroz

The bulk cargo vessel Portorož (IV) was part of the fleet of the Splošna Plovba shipping company from 2011 to 2017.

The first Portorož was built in 1968 at the Uljanik shipyard in Pula (Croatia). It remained part of the Splošna Plovba fleet until 1984, when it was sold for scrap.

The second ship to bear the name Portorož (II) was likewise built in the Uljanik yard, in 1986. It sailed under the Splošna Plovba flag until 1992, when it was sold to another shipping company. It was scrapped in 2013.

The third Portorož (III) was built in Japan in 1985. It formed part of the Splošna Plovba fleet from 2000 to 2011, when it was sold to another shipping company. It was scrapped in 2014.

Splošna Plovba took delivery of a brand-new Portorož (IV) in China's Hantong shipyard on 29 November 2011, whereupon it was named with all the traditional ceremonies. The cargo ships Tamar and Trenta, still part of the Splošna Plovba fleet, are its sister ships. The Portorož (IV), Splošna Plovba's last purchase, was sold to another shipping company in 2017, whereupon it was renamed the Patmos John, the name it still bears today.

The Portorož (IV) had a length overall of 190 m, a beam of 32.3 m, a draught of 12.8 m and a deadweight tonnage of 56,632 tonnes (gross tonnage 33,042, net tonnage 19,132). It was powered by a 9,480 kW (12,713 hp) B&W/Doosan diesel engine and had a speed of 13.2 knots.
