About Anniversaries - 150 Years of the Universal Postal Union
The General Postal Union was founded on 9 October 1874 when 22 countries signed the Treaty of Berne in the Swiss city of that name. Today the organisation is known as the Universal Postal Union (UPU). The vision of its founders was to establish a single postal network to serve people all over the world.
