About 100 Years of Municipality Schifflange

Schifflange is a town and commune in southwestern Luxembourg. It became its own municipality on 15 August 1876, separating from Esch‑sur‑Alzette. By 1976, it celebrated 100 years as a municipality.

Over the 20th century, Schifflange grew from a rural village into an urban town, fueled by steel and mining industries. Its population gradually increased, becoming multicultural with residents from around 100 nationalities.

In 2025, Schifflange marked 150 years of municipal history with special celebrations. Today, it is a modern, diverse community with schools, cultural clubs, and sustainability projects, reflecting both its historical roots and future growth.
