Winter Olymic Games - E.I.Bota
Elīna Ieva Bota is a Latvian athlete who competes in the winter sport called luge. She was born on 14 May 2000 in Latvia. In luge, athletes lie on their backs on a small sled and slide down a long icy track at very high speeds. The goal is to reach the bottom in the fastest time.
Bota competed in the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing, where she finished 18th place in the women’s singles event. She continued improving and became one of the top lugers in the world.
At the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Milano-Cortina, Italy, Elīna Ieva Bota won a silver medal in women’s singles luge. This was a very important achievement because she became the first Latvian woman to win an individual medal at the Winter Olympics.
Besides the Olympics, she has also had success at the World Championships, where she won bronze medals in 2024 in the sprint and team relay events. Bota is now known as one of Latvia’s top winter sports athletes.
