2026Eurasian Pygmy Owl - Set
2026 Eurasian Pygmy Owl - Set for only GBP £2.08
The Eurasian Pygmy Owl (Glaucidium passerinum) is the smallest owl in Europe, measuring about 15–19 cm (6–7.5 inches) long and weighing only 50–80 grams. It lives in coniferous and mixed forests across northern and central Europe and parts of Asia. Unlike many owls, it is often active during the day, especially at sunrise and sunset. This tiny owl has brown feathers with white spots on its back, a pale underside with brown streaks, bright yellow eyes, and dark markings on the back of its head that resemble a second pair of eyes, which may help scare away predators. Despite its small size, it is a skilled hunter that feeds on small birds, mice, voles, shrews, and large insects, and it often stores extra food in tree holes for later. The Eurasian Pygmy Owl is also very territorial and nests in old woodpecker holes, using a series of high-pitched whistles to communicate and defend its territory.
