Long-time residents of the Principality fondly remember Saturday and Sunday afternoons spent with family or friends, enjoying movies screened at the Cinema Cristall. It was a place where Andorrans could share emotions and dreams about lives and realities far removed from their own.
Located at 38 Avinguda Carlemany in Escaldes-Engordany, it was one of many movie theaters that sprang up in the Principality during the 1960s, riding the wave of cinema's popularity at the time.
It opened in the 1930s as the *Gran Teatre Cristall Cinema de les Escaldes*; in addition to plays and film screenings, it hosted concerts and other cultural events most notably performances of Àngel Guimerà’s *Terra Baixa* and a concert by the *Orfeó Català*.
The stamp evokes the Cinema Cristall as a hub for socializing, cultural discovery, and shared cinematic experiences, spanning the period from the 1960s until its closure in the early 1990s.
The Cinema Cristall holds a special place in the collective memory of several generations and in the cultural and daily life of Andorra a legacy this stamp honors.
