About World Telecommunication Day

The first International telegraphic convention, on which the International Telegraph Union was founded with the purpose of standardization and regulation of international radio frequencies and telecommunications, was held on 17 May 1865 in Paris. The union changed its name into the International Telecommunication Union in 1934 and the 17th May became the World Telecommunication Day.

Telecommunication traffic is defined as activity of transmission of various information performed instantly and on long distances. This includes a transmission of a word, sound, picture and data in the form of electronic and electromagnetic signals or impulses. Telecommunications encompass telegraphic and telephonic traffic and include mass communications and computer networking as part of information activity. Modern information and communication technology has a huge potential, which will strongly influence on various spheres of a society enabling fast and efficient communication and informing.

Postal traffic is considered also as telecommunication traffic as activity of delivery of pieces of mail, securities and money.
