About Flora of Republic of Srpska

Sutjeska is one of the oldest parks in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Park includes 17,500 hectares of terrain untouched and magnificent wildness.

It is a home for remaining rain forests in Europe, called Perucica. Trees of beeches, tall over 60 meters, as well as endemic black pines, grow at the cliffs which protect this ancient and really special forest. 75 meter tall waterfall is in the park, hidden with massive green forest which covers the valley.

In the National park Sutjeska, at the relatively small area, large treasure of flora and fauna, so this area was the target for many scientists: botanists, forestry experts, geologists, zoologists... Over 2.600 sorts of fauna were situated here, with large percent of endemic and rare sorts.

EDRAINTHUS SUTJESKE
Perennial plant, grows in vegetation around places with the remain snow. In the mountains it grows at the vertikal rocks of Vratar, Volujak, Maglic and Zelengora.

RHODODENDRON HIRSUTUM (Alpine rose)
Solely mountain plant, grows in high mountain areas. It is perennial plant with evergreen leafs and grows in dense bushes. It blooms from June until August. It is balmy plant.

Alpine rose grows in the whole alpine area, mostly in the area of alpine mountain pastures.

It is balmy plant. In the past, alpine rose was used in the medicine for extraction of sweat and urine. Today, nevertheless, leafs of alpine rose were used for homeopathic healing.

PANCICIA SERBICA
Pancicia serbica has characteric local endemity and nternational importance for saving biodiversity. This plant grows at pastures of upland regiona. It belongs to special endemic group Pancicion Luksic.

TROLLIUS EUROPAEUS
It grows at hills and mountains pastures, at limestones in range of 1100-1800 m/altitude and similar places with deep wet soil, in the structure of vegetation of tall greens from the gropu Adenostyletalia. It is flowering perennial plant, tall from 20-50 cm, and multiplies by seed. Tourists pick it up, and gatherers of balmy plants.
