About Estonian Forest Trees - Populus Tremula & Saperda Carcharias

The 2026 issue introduces a fresh and educational approach to Estonian philately by highlighting both forest trees and the species that depend on them. This year’s stamp features the aspen, one of the signature trees of our landscapes, together with the Saperda carcharias, whose life cycle is closely tied to the aspen. A particularly noteworthy highlight is the First Day Cover (FDC), a true gem of this release. Both sides of the envelope are filled with clear and engaging information about the aspen, its ecological importance, and the beetle that relies on it. This makes the FDC not only a collector’s delight but also an educational piece for nature lovers of all ages. This year also marks a significant shift in the series: from now on, the stamps will depict not only trees but also the insects associated with them. This adds a new level of depth by showing the ecological relationships within the forest. Aspen and the large poplar longhorn beetle open this updated concept beautifully, revealing the delicate balance that keeps Estonian forests thriving.
