On October 5, 2026, La Poste is issuing a single-stamp souvenir sheet in its "Media" series to celebrate the 80th anniversary of *L’Équipe*.
"To mark the 80th anniversary of *L’Équipe*, La Poste Group is proud to join the celebration by issuing a commemorative stamp. For eight decades, *L’Équipe* has chronicled the greatest sporting feats and brought the passion for sport to life for the French people. This initiative resonates deeply with La Poste’s long-standing commitment to sport and to refereeing in particular. Because sport brings people together, fosters transmission, and creates bonds, it embodies values that our Group shares."
So much has been said, written, and captured on camera since February 28, 1946. Today, with a team of 400 journalists, *L’Équipe* has always chronicled the world of sport, accompanying it into gymnasiums, stadiums, pools, and ice rinks, as well as onto tracks and open roads summer and winter alike, in France and abroad. Over the past 80 years, countless front pages have left their mark on generations, as have iconic images drawn from the 13 million photographs in our archives. This legacy also lives on through the *L’Équipe* TV channel, France’s leading sports channel.
The thread connecting the *L’Équipe* of the past and present and the one that will unite the *L’Équipe* of the future can be summed up in a single word: transmission. To transmit is to give, perpetuate, bequeath, transform, and prepare for the future. It is much like the practice of sport itself through a relay hand-off, a pass, or an experience shared between champions, or between major stars and beginners...
We must never forget where we come from, nor what made *L’Équipe* a great, widely beloved newspaper. It is a medium that sparks debate and passion, whether consumed in print or on a mobile phone, or experienced through the thrill of events broadcast on its television channel. We must not lose sight of the great victories and defeats chronicled, the champions followed or discovered, or the brilliant writers who shaped its history. Yet, we must also look ahead striking a balance between heritage and a dynamic future. It is a future where sport extends beyond the playing field to become an integral part of society. From inclusion, gender equality, culture, the economy, and the environment to justice and politics, sport is everywhere. And *L’Équipe* will continue to cover and champion these emerging issues.
