EUROMED - Postal Traditional Mosaics in the Mediterranean Roman Mosaic Dragon

During the construction of the old hotel "Avala" in Budva, in the late 1930s, parts of a Roman city villa - Villa Urbana were found, and in its foundation an ancient mosaic, which is assumed to date from the 2nd century AD. A fragment of this mosaic is the Sea Monster - Dragon. It is one of the oldest mosaics found in the Balkans.

In addition to decorative elements, the mosaic features recognizable fragments and complete representations of dragons, dolphins and creatures from the world of marine fauna.

The figural representations on this mosaic are distinctly two-dimensional, while the coloring is polychrome. Today it is in the lapidary of the Budva City Museum.
