About 150 Years of the First Montenegrin Postage Stamps
The first Montenegrin postage stamps were created based on a draft design made by Duke Simo Popović, and were subsequently printed in Vienna in 1873, following approval for printing being granted by Prince Nikola. These stamps feature the likeness of Prince Nikola I, encircled by two intertwined laurel branches, and were issued in seven denominations ranging from two to 25 coins.
