Did you know that the roots of the Estonian Paralympic Committee go back to 1986, when the Estonian Invasport Federation was founded under the sports association Kalev? In April 1991, organisations representing athletes with visual, hearing, physical and intellectual disabilities jointly established the Estonian Paralympic Committee, which was accepted as a member of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) that same year. The organisation’s mission is to promote and support parasport, prepare elite athletes, and coordinate Estonia’s participation in major international competitions and the Paralympic Games. Although Estonian para-athletes have competed on the world stage before, they are now being accompanied to the Paralympics for the first time by Estonia’s own Paralympic Games postage stamp – a symbolic milestone for both the athletes and Estonian philately.
