201625th Anniversary of January 13th Events - First Day Cover

In the beginning of January 1991 in Lithuania, Soviet Union troops armed with heavy military equipment attempted coup d’etat. Paratroopers brutally seized Vilnius Television Tower and Lithuanian radio and television center, moreover, planned attacking the building of then Supreme Council (now Lithuanian Parliament), that were protected by thousands of peaceful Lithuanian protesters. At the TV Tower some protesters became victims as the troopers went through the crowd of civilians by tanks and were shooting at them. During this peaceful Lithuanian citizens’ resistance against the Soviet troops, in total 14 peaceful civilian freedom defenders lost their lives and more than thousand got wounded.
