Literacy, as an expression of human needs, from the very start makes life easier and notes the surrounding reality. People have been sending each other letters from the earliest of times and from an ordinary letter have evolved greater forms such as an epistle or epistola (Greek- epistello – sending; lat.- epistola – letter). The truth is that the letter and written communication today, ever since technological enhancement has been taking massive steps forward, has undertaken a different significance. But, electronic mail has not conquered the classic written letter that the mailman will bring to your door and only the sender and recipient know the contents of that letter. With SMS or email messages there is always a chance that other people that are not part of your communication get access to the contents of the message, which enables a simple distribution of private information. A hand - written letter contains a part of your personality and it’s a small gesture that means plenty. Once it has been written and sent, it will arrive to even the most remote parts of the world. A letter has soul, whether it is written on the finest smelling paper or smudged with ink, finely wrapped in an exclusive or in a simple white envelope.
