About 100 Years of the Restoration of the Montenegrin Kingdom

Montenegro was the Principality from 1852 year to 1910 year when it reached the rank of Kingdom. Prince Danilo and Prince Nikola tended to strengthen the international position of Montenegro, and achieve international recognition of its independence. The Kingdom of Montenegro was de facto recognized as an independent state, and it was given a formal international legal recognition at the Berlin Congress held in 1878 year. However, the Principality of Montenegro at the beginning of the XX century had to answer many questions and historical challenges, both in the internal and the external field. That was the time of the first Montenegrin Constitution (1905) and the introduction of parliamentary in the country. Montenegro was proclaimed a Kingdom, and Prince Nikola was proclaimed a King on 15 August 1910 year. That day was the fiftieth anniversary of the Prince Nikola’s coming to the Throne. On the same day the Assembly adopted the Law on Promulgation of the Kingdom of Montenegro. The protocol on proclaiming Montenegro a Kingdom used a special coat-of-arms - golden double-headed eagle with the royal crown. Post of Montenegro on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of renewal of the Montenegrin Kingdom, publishes appropriate edition of stamps containing one stamp and an Envelope on the first day. Author of the preliminary design is Marko Zogovic from Podgorica.
