About 100 Years from the Battle of Mojkovac

The Battle of Mojkovac is the final act of a military operation in Mojkovac that lasted about two months, led by the Montenegrin Sandzak Army and its General Janko Vukotic, on a wide area fom the Tara River to Mount Romanija. The Battle of Mojkovac took place on snowy and terribly cold 6th and 7th of January, against far superior Austro-Hungarian units. The commander of the Austro-Hungarian troops was major general Reinel. The balance of power was 14 battalions and 11 batteries of Austro-Hungarian army (about 14,000 people) against 8 battalions of the First Division of Sandzak which had about 4,000 people, 16 cannons and several machine guns. The knights of Mojkovac – the martyrs – the dead under the snow drifts and the live had nowhere to go: no shelter or retreat. Ironically, the winner was defeated. The victory was a swan song of the glorious Montenegrin Army, one of the largest in its history. The Montenegro Post is publishing a commemorative postage stamp, a Maximum card and a First Day envelope within the edition “100th Anniversary of the Battle of Mojkovac”. The author of the conceptual design is Marko Zogović, a graphic designer from Podgorica.
