About 75 Years of Belvedere Events

75th anniversary of Belveder events Organized by left-oriented Democrats and Montenegrin Federalists, in 1936 massive anti-regime protests broke out in Montenegro, motivated by national and social injustice in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. The protests culminated in a large gathering of citizens from various parts of Montenegro in Belvedere near Cetinje. Protests involving about 3,000 people were crushed by the army and gendarmerie.There were 100 protesters arrested on the scene and during the next several days the same amount. 30 of them were sentenced to imprisonment from 6 months to 4 years by the Court for State Protection in Belgrade. Post of Montenegro in the edition named “75th anniversary of Belveder events” publishes apposite edition of postage stamps, which contains a stamp and an Envelope on the first day. Author of the preliminary design is Marko Zogović, a graphic designer from Podgorica.
