On December 11, 2018, a KEP postage stamp, dedicated to the centenary of the birth of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, is put into circulation. This item is part of the KEP series "The Anniversaries of Great Personalities", consisting of four postage stamps.
Aleksandr Isayevich Solzhenitsyn (11 December 1918 - 3 August 2008) was a Russian writer, playwright, publicist, historian, public and political figure. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1970. He was the author of the famous works "The Gulag Archipelago", "The Red Wheel", "Cancer Ward", "The First Circle" and many others.
Solzhenitsyn's works are characterized by deep historical documentary research. Also, he paid particular attention to the richness of the Russian language, sometimes using rare words and expressions.
Besides the mentioned stamp, KEP also issues one postal card with portrait of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn. This card, together with the new stamp and a special pictorial first day cancellation, was used to make a maximum card.
