About 100 Years Since the Birth of Mario Maskareli

Mario Maskareli was born in Cetinje on 20 October 1918. He completed his secondary education and graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade in 1950 under the tutelage of Nedeljko Gvozdenović, where he later also attended a special graphics course under Professor Boško Karanović. From 1950 to 1951, he worked as a teacher at the Applied Arts School in Herceg Novi.

He died in Risan in 1996. Mario Maskareli’s painting went through several phases: from painting on glass, expressive abstract painting to expressive realism. As part of the edition “100 Years Since the Birth of Mario Maskareli”, the Post of Montenegro is publishing a commemorative postage stamp and First Day Cover. The author of the design is Zoran Popović, a graphic designer from Podgorica.
