About Solidarity Seal, Inclusion of Down Syndrome People

The vision of DOWN ESPAÑA is to be the leading representative entity for the entire Spanish society of the inclusion and defense of human rights of Down syndrome, as an organization of families, promoter of national and international reference projects in improving the lives of people with Down syndrome.

Facilitate the inclusion of people with Down syndrome in all areas of their lives and ensure compliance with the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the SDGs in Spain.

The values as an organization are:

• HUMAN DIVERSITY: We recognize the dignity and value inherent in each person with Down syndrome.

• AUTONOMY of people with Down syndrome.

• INCLUSION of people with Down syndrome in all areas of their lives.

• UNIVERSAL DESIGN of issues related to physical and/or cognitive accessibility.

• USE OF COMMUNITY RESOURCES AND SPACES avoiding segregation, separation or distancing in specific spaces.

• THE PERSON AT THE CENTER: people with Down syndrome are the greatest references for the design of their programs.

• SEX EQUALITY PERSPECTIVE: we defend non-discrimination based on disability and sex.

• UNITY: DOWN ESPAÑA and its federated institutions act in a concerted, coordinated manner and are committed to their ideology.

• ETHICAL AND RESPONSIBLE MANAGEMENT: action governed by honesty, credibility, transparency and trust.

• NEUTRALITY: DOWN ESPAÑA is an independent and neutral entity, without political or religious affiliation, which acts with full autonomy and independence.

One of the priority objectives for DOWN ESPAÑA is to give visibility to people with Down syndrome to show their abilities, and thus achieve a change of consciousness in society that favors the inclusion and full integration of these people in the school and work environment. And social.

To ensure that people understand everything that people with Down syndrome can contribute to society, DOWN ESPAÑA has been developing various actions and campaigns to raise awareness and sensitize this group for years. Perhaps the most representative and special is the celebration of World Down Syndrome Day, which takes place on March 21 (21st day of the 3rd month, a symbolism related to trisomy of chromosome 21) approved by the General Assembly of the UN in December 2011 and which seeks to generate greater public awareness about Down syndrome.
