The Museum was founded on 26th September 1930 under the name of the Museum of Vrbaska Banovina. The founder of the Museum was the first Ban of Vrbaske Banovine Svetislav Tisa Milosavljevic by order of King Aleksandar Karadordevic. The first director of the Museum Vrbaska Banovina was Spiridon Spiro Bocaric, the academy – trained painter from Budva. For the first ten years of his work, (until 1941) in the region of Banja Luka he collected a large number of ethnographic objects of priceless historical, national and cultural value.
