About Art in Montenegro through the centuries

Montenegrin women's costume was adorned by a silver belt made of several plates (usually three, five, seven or nine) produced by using the techniques of casting, forging and filigree with decorative stones arranged on plates. They were typically 5-8 cm wide, and the length depended on the number of plates. Ćemer represents a distinct symbiosis of antique, oriental and Mediterranean cultural influences in the field of clothing and jewellery. The Montenegro Post is publishing a commemorative postage stamp entitled “Ćemer” within the edition “Art in Montenegro through Centuries 2015” containing two postage stamps and two First Day envelopes. The author of the conceptual design is Zoran Popović, a graphic designer from Podgorica.

The Art Gallery was established in Cetinje in 1950 as the oldest and the most prestigious institution in Montenegro in charge of: studying the development of fine arts, collecting, preserving, exhibiting objects of artistic value and selecting works of art so as to provide the most comprehensive overview of the most important works of fine arts. During the 70s, the Art Gallery was transformed into the Art Museum of Montenegro, which today includes a collection of around 3,000 exhibits, including the masterpieces of contemporary Yugoslav and Montenegrin fine arts. The Montenegro Post is publishing a commemorative postage stamp entitled “Art Museum of Montenegro” within the edition “Art in Montenegro through Centuries 2015“ containing two postage stamps and two First Day envelopes. The author of the conceptual design is Marko Zogović, a graphic designer from Podgorica.
