Empress Maria's Girls' Institute, the first girls' secondary school institution in Montenegro, was founded in 1869, thanks to the support of the Russian empress after whom it was named.Girls from wealthy and prominent Montenegrin families, as well as from abroad, were educated there. The Russian empress appointed Nadezhda Petrovna Patsevich, a teacher at the girls' high school in Petrograd, as the first manager of the institute.The Girls' Institute in Cetinje, as one of the most prestigious girls' secondary schools among the South Slavs, played a significant role in the development of education in Montenegro.Montenegro Post is issuing a commemorative postage stamp and a first day cover as part of the Historical heritage Girls' Institute in Cetinje edition.
