About Historical Heritage

The life journey of Anastas Bocarić, starting from his home town of Budva (1864) through Athens, where he graduated from the Painting Academy, led him to Cetinje where he became the court painter of King Nikola, and then to Mostar, Sarajevo, Zagreb, Belgrade, Istanbul, Cairo, Thessaloniki, Skopje, Subotica, Novi Sad and Perast where he died in 1944. The painting opus of Mr. Bocarić is only partially known. As he stayed in different countries, he left behind the paintings both ordered and made for his pleasure. Thus, only a small part of a very extensive and important creative work of this great Montenegrin painter is known today. However, sixty-five precious works are now located in the National Museum of Montenegro. The Montenegro Post is publishing a commemorative postage stamp of Anastas Bocarić and a First Day envelope within the edition “Historical Heritage”. The author of the conceptual design is Zoran Popović, a graphic designer from Podgorica.

The Mausoleum of Bishop Danilo, the progenitor of the Petrović Njegoš dynasty, was built on Orlov Krš. The Mausoleum was built in 1896 in honour of the celebration of the bicentennial of the Petrović family reign. The Mausoleum was built according to the idea of princess Jelena, the future Italian queen. The architectural elaboration of the design was done by French architect Frusher. The mausoleum is made of stone brought from the Ljubović hill, and the craftsmen were from Korčula and Montenegro. The Mausoleum of Bishop Danilo is a rare successful blend of architecture and landscape. Elegant and refined, without excessive monumentality, along with a surrounding park area, it is a very attractive viewpoint. The Montenegro Post is publishing a commemorative postage stamp of Orlov Krš and a First Day envelope within the edition “Historical Heritage”. The author of the conceptual design is Zoran Popović, a graphic designer from Podgorica.
