ActNow is the United Nations’ global call to individual action on climate change. The campaign is a critical part of the UN’s coordinated effort to raise awareness, ambition, and action for climate change and accelerate implementation of the Paris Agreement. Primarily an online and social media campaign, ActNow will educate and encourage individual actions, mainly by adjusting consumption patterns. By changing our habits and routines, and making choices that have less harmful effects on the environment, we have the power to confront the climate challenge. The postage stamp was originally issued on the occasion of the international philatelic exhibitions Milanofil 2020, which did not take place at the scheduled date due to the global pandemic Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Cycling is one of the four basic modes of transport along with walking, public transport and individual cars. To help support the effort to protect our environment, as part of the response to climate change, we need to give suitable encouragement to the harmonious development of individual modes of sustainable mobility (public transport and non-motorised transport: walking and cycling) with its potential to reduce the negative impact of the enormous growth in the use of cars. Cycling is a common form of transport that helps to considerably reduce the level of harmful emissions in the air. In turn it generates a natural pressure that results in a decrease in the severity of traffic jams in city centres and the suburbs which have resulted from the excessive use of personal cars.
At the same time, the use of bicycles contributes to an improvement in the health of the population and reduces expenditure on products such as fuel and lubricants. The everyday use of bicycles contributes to the development of stronger social links between the inhabitants of a city and a more efficient use of public spaces.
