About Historical Heritage - Soko Town

It is located in the region called Lješanska nahija, between Cetinje and Danilovgrad near the village of Štitare. The town was mentioned in 1444, and the folk stories link its origin to Ivan Crnojević (Ivan’s town). It is interesting to note that in addition to the walls the city has all the main elements of a classic medieval fortress: citadel, tower, cisterns, church, residential building and a well defended entrance between two large rocks, as towers. The Montenegro Post is publishing a commemorative postage stamp entitled Soko grad (Soko Town) and a First Day envelope within the edition “Historical Heritage”. The author of the conceptual design is Zoran Popović, a graphic designer from Podgorica.
